‘You Were Wrong To Do This’:
Al Green Torches Trump Over ‘Jesus’ Image Row, Calls For Impeachment
US News: In a fiery speech on April 23, Democrat Rep. Al Green (D-TX) sharply criticized US President Donald Trump over a controversial image depicting himself as Jesus Christ, calling it “disgraceful,” “shameful,” and beneath the dignity of the presidency.
Speaking on the House floor,
Green declared that such actions demand accountability and renewed his call for impeachment.
addressing “We the People,” Green emphasized that respect, fairness, and dignity must be upheld by those in power. He argued that Trump’s actions reflect a broader pattern of conduct that undermines democratic values and public trust. “We the people believe that you should acknowledge that you were wrong,” Green said, insisting that the president’s behavior was unacceptable and damaging to the office.
Green also took aim at Trump’s past policies, including healthcare cuts, stating that the former president had “no mandate to cut Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security.” He shared a real-life story of a constituent struggling to afford life-saving treatment, underscoring the human cost of such decisions and calling healthcare a fundamental right.
On the controversial imagery, Green said,
“Donald Trump is not Jesus Christ,” warning that exploiting religious symbolism for political purposes erodes respect and unity in a diverse society. He further accused Trump of repeatedly showing “disrespect for human life” and various communities.
Escalating his rhetoric,
Green warned that Trump is “out of control” and “devolving into a dictator,” urging Congress to act
(call for impeachment.)
before further damage is done. “We must stop him… through proper political and legal means,” he said, pointing to impeachment as a constitutional tool available to lawmakers.
Concluding his remarks, Green announced plans to introduce a resolution condemning Trump’s actions, stating that the president
“knew or should have known” the consequences of such behavior. He reaffirmed his stance:
“We have more than enough evidence – we only lack the will.”
