Hebrews Chapter 3

Jesus Greater Than Moses

3:1

Therefore,

holy
brothers
and sisters, 

who
share
in the heavenly
calling,

fix 

your thoughts 

on Jesus, 

whom
we acknowledge 

as
our apostle
and high priest.

2 

He

was

faithful

to
the one

who
appointed
him,

just as
Moses was
faithful in all

God’s

house.

3 

Jesus
has been
found worthy of
greater honor

than
Moses,

just as
the builder
of a house

has
greater
honor than

the house itself.

4 

For
every house is
built by someone, 

but

God

is 

the builder of

everything.

5

 “Moses
was faithful
as a servant in all
God’s house,”

bearing
witness to what
would be spoken

by God

in the future.

6 

But 

Christ
is faithful
as the Son

over
God’s house. 

And
we are
his house, 

if indeed

we

hold

firmly

to
our
confidence

and

the hope 

in which we glory.

Warning Against Unbelief

7 

So,
as the Holy Spirit
says:

“Today,

if you hear

his voice,

8 

    do not

harden 

your hearts

as you did
in the rebellion,

during
the time of
testing 

in the wilderness,

9 

where
your ancestors
tested and tried me,

though

for
forty years

they saw
what I did.

10 

That is why
I was angry with
that generation;

I said,

‘Their

hearts are

always

going  astray,

and

they

have not 

known

my ways.’

11 

So

I declared
on oath in my
anger,

‘They 

shall

never

enter

my rest.’ ”

12 

See to it,
brothers and sisters,

that
none of you
has

a sinful, 

unbelieving
heart

that
turns away from
the living God.

13 

But 

encourage 

one another

daily,

as long as
it is called “Today,” 

so that
none of you
may be hardened 

by 

sin’s 

deceitfulness.

14 

We
have come
to share in Christ,

if indeed
we hold our original
conviction firmly 

to the very end.

15 

As has
just been said:

“Today,
if you hear
his voice,

do not
harden your hearts
as you did in the rebellion.”

16 

Who were they
who heard and rebelled? 

Were
they not
all those Moses
led out of Egypt?

17 

And
with whom
was he angry
for forty years? 

Was it not
with those who
sinned, 

whose bodies
perished

in the wilderness?

18 

And

to whom
did God swear
that they would never
enter his rest

if not
to those who

disobeyed?

19 

So
we see
that they were not
able to enter,

because of

their

unbelief.

소망의 확신과

자랑을

끝까지
굳게 잡고 있으면

우리는
그의 집이라

3:7 

그러므로

성령이
이르신 바와 같이

오늘날

너희가

그의 음성을

듣거든

3:8 

광야에서
시험하던 날에

거역하던 것같이

너희 마음을

완고하게 하지 말라

3:9 

거기서

너희 열조가
나를 시험하여
증험하고

사십 년 동안에

나의 행사를

이 세대에게
노하여 이르기를

그들이

항상 마음이

미혹되어

내 길을

알지 못하는도다

너희는
삼가 혹 너희 중에

악한 마음을 품고

살아 계신 하나님에게서

떨어질까 조심할것이요

오직

오늘이라

일컫는 동안에

매일

피차 권면하여

너희 중에

누구든지

죄의유혹으로

완고하게 되지 않도록 하라

3:14 

우리가
시작할 때에

확실한 것을

끝까지
견고히 잡고
있으면

그리스도와 함께
참여한 자가 되리라

3:15 

성경에
일렀으되

오늘
너희가

격노하시게
하던 것 같이

A Warning Against Hypocrisy

23 :1

Then

Jesus
said

to
the crowds

and

to
his disciples:

“The teachers of the law
and the Pharisees
sit

in
Moses’ seat.

3

So
you must be
careful to do everything
they tell you.

But

do not do
what they do,

for

they

do not

practice

what
they preach.

4

They
tie up heavy,
cumbersome loads

and
put them
on other people’s shoulders,

but

they
themselves
are not

willing
to lift a finger

to
move them.

“Everything
they do is done
for people to see:

They
make their
phylacteries wide

and
the tassels
on their garments
long;

6

they
love the place
of honor at banquets

and
the most important
seats

in
the synagogues;

7

they
love to be
greeted with respect

in
the marketplaces

and
to be called
‘Rabbi’ by others.

“But

you
are not to be
called

‘Rabbi,’

for
you have
one Teacher,

and

you are

all brothers.

9

And
do not call
anyone on earth
‘father,’

for
you have
one Father,

and
he is in heaven.

Nor
are you to be
called instructors,

for
you have
one Instructor,

the Messiah.

11

The greatest
among you

will be
your servant.

For
those who
exalt themselves

will be
humbled,

and
those who
humble themselves

will be
exalted.

Seven Woes on the Teachers of the Law and the Pharisees

“Woe to you,

teachers of the law
and Pharisees,

you hypocrites!

You
shut the door
of the kingdom of heaven

in
people’s faces.

You
yourselves
do not enter,

nor
will you let those
enter who are trying to.

“Woe to you,

teachers
of the law

and
Pharisees,

you hypocrites!

You
travel over
land and sea to win
a singleconvert,

and

when
you have
succeeded,

you
make them

twice
as much
a child of hell

as you are.

“Woe to you,

blind guides!

You say,

‘If
anyone
swears by the temple,

it means
nothing; but
anyone who swears

by
the gold of
the temple is bound
by that oath.’

17

You blind fools!

Which
is greater:

the gold,
or the temple
that makes the gold
sacred?

18

You also say,

‘If anyone
swears by the altar,

it
means
nothing;

but
anyone
who swears by the gift

on
the altar is
bound by that oath.’

19

You blind men!

Which
is greater:

the gift,

or

the altar

that
makes the gift
sacred?

20

Therefore,

anyone
who swears
by the altar

swears by it

and
by everything
on it.

21

And
anyone
who swears by
the temple swears by it

and
by the one
who dwells in it.

22

And

anyone
who swears by heaven
swears by God’s throne

and
by the one
who sits on it.

“Woe to you,

teachers of the law
and Pharisees,

you hypocrites!

You
give a tenth of
your spices—
mint, dill and cumin.

But
you have
neglected

the more
important matters
of the law—

justice,

mercy

and

faithfulness.

You
should have

practiced

the latter,

without
neglecting the former.

You
strain out
a gnat

but
swallow a camel.

“Woe to you,

teachers of the law
and Pharisees,

you hypocrites!

You
clean the outside
of the cup and dish,

but
inside

they
are full of

greed

and

self-indulgence.

Blind Pharisee!

First
clean the inside
of the cup and dish,

and then
the outside also
will be clean.

27

“Woe to you,

teachers of the law
and Pharisees,

you hypocrites!

You are like
whitewashed tombs,

which
look beautiful
on the outside

but
on the inside
are full of the bones
of the dead

and
everything
unclean.

In the same way,

on
the outside

you
appear
to people

as
righteous

but

on
the inside

you
are full of

hypocrisy

and

wickedness.

“Woe to you,

teachers of the law
and Pharisees,

you hypocrites!

You
build tombs
for the prophets

and
decorate
the graves of the righteous.

30

And you say,

‘If
we had lived
in the days of our ancestors,

we
would not
have taken part with them

in
shedding
the blood of

the prophets.’

31

So
you testify
against yourselves

that
you are
the descendants
of those who murdered
the prophets.

32

Go ahead, then,

and
complete
what your ancestors
started!

33

“You snakes!

You brood of vipers!

How will you
escape

being
condemned
to hell?

34

Therefore

I am
sending you
prophets and sages
and teachers.

Some of them
you will kill and crucify;

others
you will flog
in your synagogues

and
pursue from
town to town.

35

And
so upon you will come
all the righteous blood

that
has been shed
on earth,

from
the blood

of
righteous Abel

to
the blood
of Zechariah
son of Berekiah,

whom
you murdered
between the temple
and the altar.

36

Truly I tell you,

all
this will
come on this generation.

37

“Jerusalem,
Jerusalem,

you
who kill
the prophets

and
stone
those sent to you,

how often
I have longed
to gather your children
together,

as
a hen gathers
her chicks

under
her wings,

you

were not

willing.

Look,

your house

is left

to you

desolate.

Oh,
that my head
were a spring of
water

and
my eyes
a fountain of
tears!

I
would
weep

day
and night

for
the slain of
my people.

Oh,
that I had
in the desert

a lodging place
for travelers,

so that
I might leave
my people

and
go away
from them;

for
they are all
adulterers,

a crowd of
unfaithful
people.

“They
make ready
their tongue

like a bow,
to shoot
lies;

it
is not
by truth

that
they triumph
in the land.

They
go from one sin
to another;

they
do not
acknowledge
me,”

declares

“Beware
of your friends;

do not
trust anyone

clan.

every one
of them
is

a deceiver,

every friend

Friend

deceives

friend,

and

no one
speaks
the truth.

They
have taught
their tongues
to lie;

they
weary

the midst

deception;

“See,

I
will
refine

and

test them,

for
what else
can I do

tongue is
a deadly arrow;

deceitfully.

their mouths

they all
speak cordially
to their neighbors,

but
in their hearts

they
set traps
for them.

Should

I

not

punish

them

for this?”

declares

“Should I not
avenge
myself

on
such a nation
as this?”

I will weep
and wail

for
the mountains

and

take up
a lament

concerning
the wilderness
grasslands.

They are
desolate
and untraveled,

and
the lowing of
cattle is not heard.

The birds
have all fled

and
the animals
are gone.

“I will make
Jerusalem a heap
of ruins,

a haunt of
jackals;

and

I will lay
waste the towns
of Judah

so no one
can live there.”

Who
is wise enough
to understand
this?

Who
has been
instructed

by
the Lord

and
can explain it?

Why
has the land been
ruined

and
laid waste
like a desert

that
no one can
cross?

The Lord said,

“It is
because

they have
forsaken my
law,

which
I set before
them;

they
have not
obeyed me

or followed
my law.

14

Instead,

they have
followed

the
stubbornness

of
their
hearts;

they
have followed
the Baals,

as their ancestors
taught them.” 

15

Therefore

this is
what the Lord
Almighty,

the
God of
Israel, says:

“See,

I will make
this people eat
bitter food

and

drink
poisoned
water. 

16

I will scatter
them

among
nations

that
neither they

nor
their ancestors
have known,

and

I will
pursue them
with the sword

until
I have made
an end of them.”

This is
what the Lord
Almighty
says:

“Consider now!

Call for
the wailing women
to come;

send
for the most skillful
of them.

Let them
come quickly
and wail over us

till
our eyes
overflow with
tears

and water
streams from
our eyelids.

The sound of
wailing is heard
from Zion:

‘How ruined
we are!

How great is
our shame!

We
must leave
our land

because
our houses are
in ruins.’”

Now,
you women,

hear
the word of
the Lord;

open
your ears

to
the words
of his mouth.

Teach
your daughters
how to wail;

teach
one another
a lament.

Death has
climbed in through
our windows

and
has entered
our fortresses;

it has
removed
the children from
the streets

and
the young men
from the public
squares.

Say,

“This is
what the Lord
declares:

“‘Dead bodies
will lie  like dung
on the open field,

like
cut grain
behind the reaper,

with
no one
to gather them.’”

This is
what the Lord
says:

“Let not

the
wise boast

of
their
wisdom

or

the
strong boast

of
their
strength

 or

the rich
boast

of
their
riches,

but

let
the one
who boasts

boast
about this:

  that they have
the understanding
to know
me,

that I am
the Lord,

who
exercises

kindness,

  justice

and

righteousness

on
earth,

 for
in these
I delight,”

declares the Lord.

 “The days
are coming,”

declares
the Lord,

“when
I will punish
all

are  circumcised only
in the flesh—

Egypt, Judah,
Edom, Ammon, Moab
and all

live in
the wilderness

distant
places.

all these nations
are really uncircumcised,

even the whole house
