Joseph Accepts Jesus as His Son

This is
how the birth of

Jesus

the Messiah

came about :

His
mother Mary was
pledged to be married
to Joseph,

but
before they
came together,

she
was found
to be pregnant

through
the Holy Spirit.

19

Because
Joseph her husband
was faithful to the law,

and yet
did not want to
expose her to public
disgrace,

he
had in mind
to divorce her
quietly.

20

But
after he had
considered this,

an angel
of the Lord appeared
to him

in
a dream and
said,

“Joseph
son of David,

do not
be afraid

to take
Mary home

as your wife,

because
what is conceived
in her is

from

the Holy Spirit.

21

She will
give birth to
a son,

and
you are to give him
the name

Jesus,

because

he

will

save
his people

from their
sins.”

22

All this
took place

to fulfill
what the Lord
had said

through
the prophet:

23

“The virgin

will conceive

and give birth

to a son,

and they will

call him

Immanuel

”(which means

“God with us”).

24

When
Joseph woke up,

he did
what the angel of
the Lord had commanded
him

and
took Mary home
as his wife.

25

But

he did not

consummate
their marriage

until
she gave birth
to a son.

And
he gave him

the name

Jesus.

and misery

the way of
peace

is no fear of

we know
that

whatever
the law
says,

it says
to those
who are under
the law,

so that

every mouth
may be
silenced

and

the
whole world
held

accountable
to God.

Therefore

no one
will be declared
righteous

in
God’s sight

by
the works of
the law;

rather,

through
the law

we
become
conscious of
our sin.

Righteousness
Through
Faith

21

But

now
apart from
the law

the
righteousness
of God

has
been
made known,

to
which
the Law and
the Prophets
testify.

22

This
righteousness
is

given
through

faith
in Jesus Christ

to
all who
believe.

There is
no difference

between
Jew and
Gentile,

23

for
all have
sinned

and

fall short of
the glory of
God,

24

and

all are
justified freely
by his grace

through
the redemption
that came
by

Christ Jesus.

Matthew Chapter16

The Demand for a Sign

16:1

The
Pharisees
and Sadducees

came
to Jesus and
tested
him

by
asking him
to show them
a sign

from heaven.

2

He
replied,

“When
evening comes,

you say,

‘It
will be
fair weather,

for
the sky is red,’

3

and
in the morning,

‘Today
it will be stormy,

for
the sky is red and
overcast.’

You know
how to interpret
the appearance

of
the sky,

but

you cannot

interpret the signs

of the times.

4

A
wicked

and
adulterous
generation

looks for

a sign,

but
none will be
given it

except
the sign of Jonah.”

Jesus
then left them
and went away.

The Yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees

5

When
they went across
the lake,

the
disciples
forgot to take
bread.

6

 “Be careful,”

Jesus
said to them.

“Be
on your guard

against

the yeast

of
the Pharisees
and Sadducees.”

7

They
discussed this

among
themselves and said,

“It is
because
we didn’t bring

any
bread.”

8

Aware of
their discussion,

Jesus asked,

“You
of little faith,

why
are you talking
among yourselves

about
having no bread?

9

Do
you still
not understand?

Don’t
you remember

the five loaves
for the five thousand,

and
how many basketfuls
you gathered?

10

Or
the seven loaves
for the four thousand,

and
how many
basketfuls

you
gathered?

11

How is it
you don’t understand

that
I was not
talking to you

about bread?

But

be
on your
guard

against

the yeast of

the
Pharisees
and Sadducees.”

12

Then
they understood

that
he was not
telling them to guard

against
the yeast used in
bread,

but

against

the teaching

of
the Pharisees
and Sadducees.

Peter Declares That Jesus Is the Messiah

13

When
Jesus came
to the region of
Caesarea Philippi,

he
asked
his disciples,

“Who
do people say

the
Son of Man
is?”

14

They replied,

“Some say
John the Baptist;

others say
Elijah; and still others,
Jeremiah

or
one of
the prophets.”

15

 “But

what about

you?”

he
asked.

“Who

do you say

I am?”

16

Simon Peter
answered,

“You

are

the Messiah,

the Son

of the living

God.”

17

Jesus replied,

“Blessed are you,

Simon
son of Jonah,

for
this was not
revealed to you

by
flesh and
blood,

but
by my Father
in heaven.

18

And
I tell you that

you
are Peter,

and
on this rock

I will build
my church,

and
the gates of
Hades

will not

overcome
it.

19

 I
will
give you

the
keys
of the kingdom of
heaven;

whatever
you bind on earth

will be
bound in heaven,

and
whatever
you loose on earth

will be
loosed in heaven.”

Then
he ordered
his disciples

not to tell

anyone

that
he was

the Messiah.

Jesus Predicts His Death

21

From
that time on

Jesus
began to
explain to his disciples

that
he must
go to Jerusalem

and
suffer many things

at
the hands of
the elders,

the
chief priests
and the teachers of
the law,

and that

he
must be killed

and

on

the third day

be raised

to life.

22

Peter
took him aside

and
began to rebuke him.

“Never, Lord!”
he said. “

This
shall never
happen to you!”

23

Jesus
turned and said
to Peter,

“Get
behind me,

Satan!

You are
a stumbling block
to me;

you
do not have
in mind

the concerns of God,

but
merely human
concerns.”

24

Then
Jesus said to
his disciples,

“Whoever
wants to be my disciple

must
deny themselves

and
take up their
cross

and
follow me.

25

For

whoever

wants

to save

their life

will

lose it,

but

whoever

loses

their life

for me

will

find it.

26

What good
will it be

for someone
to gain

the
whole world,

yet

forfeit
their soul?

Or
what can
anyone give
in exchange for

their soul?

27

For
the Son of Man
is going to come
in his Father’s glory

with his angels,

and then
he will reward

each person

according to
what they have done.

who are standing here
will not taste death

That Which Defiles

15:1

Then
some Pharisees
and teachers of the law
came to Jesus

from
Jerusalem and
asked,

2

 “Why
do your disciples
break the tradition of
the elders?

They don’t
wash their hands
before they eat!”

3 

Jesus
replied,

“And why do you
break the command of
God

for
the sake of
your tradition?

4 

For God said,

‘Honor
your father and
mother’

and
‘Anyone
who curses their father
or mother is to be
put to death.’

5 

But
you say that

if
anyone
declares that
what might have been used
to help their father or mother is
‘devoted to God,’

6 

they are
not to ‘honor
their father or mother’
with it.

Thus
you nullify
the word of God

for
the sake of
your tradition.

7 

You
hypocrites!

Isaiah
was right

when
he prophesied
about you:

8 

“‘These
people honor
me

with
their lips,

but

their hearts  are

far from me.

9 

They

worship me

in vain;

their
teachings are

merely
human rules.’”

10 

Jesus
called the crowd
to him

and said,

“Listen

and

understand.

11 

What
goes into
someone’s mouth

does not

defile them,

but
what comes out
of their mouth,

that is

what

defiles them.”

12 

Then
the disciples
came to him and asked,

“Do you know that
the Pharisees were
offended

when
they heard this?”

13 

He replied,

“Every plant
that my heavenly Father
has not planted

will be
pulled up
by the roots.

14 

Leave them;

they are
blind guides.

If
the blind
lead the blind,

both will
fall into a pit.”

Peter said,

“Explain
the parable to us.”

16

 “Are you still
so dull?”

Jesus
asked them.

17

 “Don’t you see that

whatever
enters the mouth

goes into
the stomach

and then

out of the body?

But
the things

that
come out of
a person’s mouth

come from
the heart,

and these

defile them.

19 

For
out of the heart

come
evil thoughts—

murder,

adultery,

sexual immorality,

theft,

false testimony,

slander.

These are

what defile
a person;

but
eating with
unwashed hands

does not

defile them.”

The Faith of a Canaanite Woman

21 

Leaving that place,

Jesus
withdrew
to the region of
Tyre and Sidon.

22 

A Canaanite woman
from that vicinity came
to him,

crying out,

“Lord,
Son of David,

have
mercy on me!

My
daughter is

demon-possessed

and suffering
terribly.”

23 

Jesus
did not answer
a word.

So
his disciples
came to him

and
urged him,

“Send her away,

for she keeps
crying out after us.”

24 

He answered,

“I was sent
only to the lost sheep
of Israel.”

25 

The woman
came and knelt
before him.

“Lord,

help me!”

she said.

26 

He replied,

“It is not right
to take the children’s
bread

and
toss it
to the dogs.”

27

 “Yes it is, Lord,”
she said.

“Even the dogs
eat the crumbs that fall
from their master’s table.”

28 

Then

Jesus
said to her,

“Woman,

you
 have
great faith!

Your request is
granted.”

And
her daughter
was healed

at that moment.

Jesus Heals the Sick

29 

Jesus left there
and went along the Sea of Galilee.

Then
he went up
on a mountainside

and
sat down.

30 

Great crowds
came to
him,

bringing

the lame,

the blind,

the crippled,

the mute

and many others,

and
laid them
at his feet;

and

he

healed

them.

31 

The people
were
amazed

when
they saw

the mute
speaking,

the crippled
made well,

the lame
walking

and

the blind
seeing.

And
they praised

the God of
Israel.

Jesus Feeds the Four Thousand

32 

Jesus called
his disciples to him
and said,

“I have
compassion
for these people;

they
have already been
with me three days

and
have nothing
to eat.

I do not want
to send them away
hungry,

or
they may collapse
on the way.”

33 

His disciples
answered,

“Where
could we get
enough bread

in
this remote place
to feed such
a crowd?”

34

 “How many

loaves do you have?”

Jesus asked.

“Seven,”

they replied,

“and a few small fish.”

35 

He told
the crowd to sit down
on the ground.

36 

Then
he took

the seven loaves

and the fish,

and
when he
had given thanks,

he broke them
and gave them to
the disciples,

and
they in turn
to the people.

37 

They all
ate

and
were satisfied.

Afterward

the disciples
picked up

seven basketfuls
of broken pieces

that
were left over.

38 

The number of
those who ate was

four thousand men,

besides

women and
children.

39 

After
Jesus had sent
the crowd away,

바리새인과
서기관들이

예루살렘으로부터
예수께 나아와
이르되

15:2

당신의
제자들이

어찌하여
장로들의 전통을
범하나이까

떡 먹을 때에
손을 씻지 아니하나이다

15:3

대답하여
이르시되

 너희는 어찌하여

너희의 전통으로

하나님의 계명을

범하느냐

15:4

하나님이
이르셨으되

네 부모를
공경하라 하시고

또
아버지나 어머니를
비방하는 자는

반드시
죽임을 당하리라

하셨거늘

15:5

너희는 이르되

누구든지
아버지에게나
어머니에게

말하기를

내가 드려
유익하게 할 것이

하나님께
드림이 되었다고
하기만 하면

15:6

그 부모를
공경할 것이 없다 하여

너희의 전통으로

하나님의 말씀을

폐하는도다

15:7

외식하는 자들아

이사야가
너희에 관하여

잘 예언하였도다

일렀으되

15:8

이 백성이

입술로는
나를 공경하되

마음은
내게서 멀도다

15:9

사람의 계명으로
교훈을 삼아 가르치니

나를 헛되이
경배하는도다 하였느니라
하시고

15:10

무리를 불러 이르시되

듣고 깨달으라

15:11

입으로
들어가는 것이

사람을
더럽게하는 것이
아니라

입에서
나오는 그것이

사람을
더럽게 하는
것이니라

15:12

이에
제자들이 나아와
가로되

바리새인들이
이 말씀을 듣고
걸림이 된 줄 아시나이까

15:13

예수께서
대답하여 이르시되

심은 것마다

내 하늘 아버지께서

심으시지 않은것은

뽑힐 것이니

15:14

그냥 두라

그들은
맹인이 되어
맹인을인도하는 자로다

만일
맹인이
맹인을인도하면

둘이 다

구덩이에
빠지리라 하시니

15:15

베드로가
대답하여 이르되

이 비유를
우리에게 설명하여
주옵소서

15:16

예수께서
이르시되

너희도
아직까지 깨달음이
없느냐

15:17

입으로 들어가는
모든 것은

배로 들어가서
뒤로 내버려지는 줄

알지 못하느냐

15:18

입에서
나오는 것들은

마음에서
나오나니

이것이야말로

사람을
더럽게 하느니라

15:19

마음에서
나오는 것은

악한 생각과

살인과

간음과

음란과

도둑질과

거짓 증언과

비방이니

15:20

이런 것들이
사람을 더럽게 하는
것이요

씻지 않은
손으로 먹는 것은

사람을
더럽게 하지
못하느니라

예수께서
거기서 나가사
두로와 시돈지방으로
들어가시니

그 지경에서
나와서

소리 질러 이르되

주 다윗의 자손이여

나를 불쌍히 여기소서

내 딸이

흉악하게

귀신 들렸나이다 하되

예수는

한 말씀도
대답하지 아니하시니

제자들이 와서
청하여 말하되

그 여자가

우리 뒤에서
소리를 지르오니

그를보내소서

예수께서
대답하여 이르시되

나는
이스라엘 집의
잃어버린 양 외에는

다른 데로
보내심을 받지
아니하였노라 하시니

여자가 와서

예수께 절하며
이르되

주여

저를 도우소서

대답하여
이르시되

자녀의 떡을
취하여

개들에게
던짐이

마땅하지 아니하니라

여자가 이르되

주여
옳소이다마는

개들도

제 주인의
상에서 떨어지는
부스러기를

먹나이다 하니

이에
예수께서
대답하여 이르시되

여자여

네 믿음이

크도다

네 소원대로
되리라 하시니

그 때로부터
그의 딸이 나으니라

 

예수께서 병자들을 고쳐주시다

예수께서
거기서 떠나사

갈릴리
호숫가에 이르러

산에 올라가
거기 앉으시니

큰 무리가

다리 저는 사람과

장애인과

맹인과

말 못하는 사람과

기타 여럿을
데리고 와서

예수의

발 앞에
앉히매

고쳐 주시니

15:31

말 못하는 사람이
말하고

장애인이
온전하게 되고

다리 저는 사람이
걸으며

맹인이
보는 것을

무리가 보고
놀랍게여겨

이스라엘의 하나님께
영광을 돌리니라

예수께서 사천 명을 먹이시다

15:32

예수께서

제자들을
불러 이르시되

내가
무리를 불쌍히
여기노라

그들이
나와함께 있은 지

이미 사흘이매
먹을 것이없도다

길에서
기진할까 하여

굶겨 보내지
못하겠노라

15:33

제자들이 이르되

광야에 있어
우리가 어디서

이런
무리가 배부를 만큼
떡을 얻으리이까

15:34

예수께서 이르시되

너희에게
떡이 몇개나 있느냐

이르되

일곱 개와

작은 생선
두어 마리가
있나이다

하거늘

15:35

예수께서
무리에게 명하사

땅에
앉게하시고

15:36

떡 일곱 개와

그 생선을 가지사

축사하시고

떼어
제자들에게 주시니

제자들이
무리에게 주매

15:37

다 배불리 먹고

남은 조각을

일곱 광주리에 차게

거두었으며

15:38

먹은 자는

여자와 어린이 외에

사천 명이었더라

15:39

예수께서

무리를
흩어 보내시고
