thanks to you,

Freedom in Christ
Galatians 5:1-26
1
It is for freedom
that Christ has
set us free.
Stand firm, then,
and do not
let yourselves
be burdened
again
by a yoke of
slavery.

Mark my words!
I, Paul, tell you
that if you let yourselves
be circumcised,
Christ will be of
no value to you
at all.
3
Again I declare
to every man
who
lets himself
be circumcised
that
he is obligated
to obey the whole
law.
4
You who are
trying to be justified
by the law
have been
alienated from
Christ;
you have fallen away
from grace.
5
For through the Spirit
we eagerly await
by faith
the righteousness
for which we
hope.
6
For in Christ Jesus
neither
circumcision
nor
uncircumcision
has any value.
The only thing
that counts is
faith
expressing itself
through
love.

You were running
a good race.
Who cut in on you
to keep you
from
obeying
the truth?

That kind of persuasion
does not come from
the one who
calls you.

“A little yeast works
through the whole batch
of dough.”

I am confident
in the Lord
that
you will take
no other view.
The one
who is throwing you
into confusion,
whoever that may be,
will have to pay
the penalty.

Brothers and sisters,
if I am
still preaching
circumcision,
why am I still being
persecuted?
In that case
the offense of the cross

As for those agitators,
I wish they would go
the whole way

emasculate
themselves!
Life by the Spirit

You, my brothers
and sisters, were called
to be free.
But
do not use
your freedom
to indulge
the flesh;
rather,
serve one another
humbly
in love.

For
the entire law
is
fulfilled
in keeping this
one command:
“Love your neighbor
as yourself.”

If you bite
and devour
each other,
watch out
or you will be destroyed
by each other.

So I say,
walk by the Spirit,
and you will not gratify
the desires of
the flesh.

For
the flesh desires
what is contrary to
the Spirit,
and the Spirit
what is contrary to
the flesh.
They are in conflict
with each other,
so that
you are not to do
whatever you want.

But
if you are led by
the Spirit,
you are not
under the law.

The acts of the flesh
are obvious:
sexual immorality,
impurity
and
debauchery;

idolatry
and witchcraft;
hatred,
discord,
jealousy,
fits of rage,
selfish ambition,
dissensions,
factions

and envy;
drunkenness,
orgies,
and the like.
I warn you,
as I did before,
that
those who
live like this
will not
inherit
the kingdom of
God.

But
the fruit of
the Spirit
is
love,
joy,
peace,
forbearance,
kindness,
goodness,
faithfulness,

gentleness
and self-control.
Against such things
there is no law.

Those who
belong to Christ Jesus
have crucified
the flesh
with its passions
and desires.

Since
we live by the Spirit,
let us keep in step
with the Spirit.

Let us not
become
conceited,
provoking
and envying
each other.

On Denying the Incarnation

Dear friends,
do not believe
every spirit,
but
test the spirits
to see whether they are
from God,
because
many false prophets
have gone out into
the world.

This is how
you can recognize
the Spirit of
God:
Every spirit
that acknowledges
that Jesus Christ has come
in the flesh is
from God,
3
And
every spirit
that confesseth
not
that
Jesus Christ
is come in the flesh
is not
of God:
and
this is that
spirit of antichrist,
whereof ye have heard
that it should come;
and even now
already is it in
the world.

but every spirit
that does not acknowledge
Jesus is not from
God.
This is
the spirit
of the antichrist,
which
you have heard is
coming
and
even now is already
in the world.

You,
dear children,
are from God
and have
overcome them,
because
the one who is in you
is greater
than
the one
who is in the world.

They are from the world
and therefore speak from
the viewpoint of
the world,
and
the world
listens to them.
6
We are from God,
and
whoever knows
God
listens to us;
but
whoever is not
from God
does not
listen to us.
This is how we recognize
the Spirit of truth
and the spirit of
falsehood.
God’s Love and Ours

Dear friends,
let us love one another,
for love comes
from God.
Everyone
who loves has been
born of
God
and knows God.

Whoever
does not love
does not
know God,
because
God is love.
9
This is how
God showed
his love among
us:
He sent
his one and only
Son into the world
that we might
live through
him.
10
This is love:
not that we loved God,
but that he loved us
and sent his Son
as an atoning sacrifice
for our sins.

Dear friends,
since God so loved us,
we also ought to
love one another.
12
No one has ever seen God;
but if we love one another,
God lives in us
and his love is
made complete in us.

This is how we know
that we live in him
and he in us:
He has given us of
his Spirit.

And we have seen
and testify that
the Father has sent his Son
to be the Savior of
the world.

If
anyone
acknowledges
that
Jesus is the Son of God,
God lives in them
and they in God.

And so we know
and rely on the love
God has for us.
God is love.
Whoever lives in love
lives in God,
and God in them.

This is how
love is made complete
among us
so that we will have
confidence on the day
of judgment:
In this world
we are like Jesus.

There is no fear in love.
But perfect love
drives out fear,
because fear has to do
with punishment.
The one who fears is not
made perfect
in love.
19
We love
because he first loved us.
20
Whoever claims to love God
yet hates a brother
or sister is a liar.
For whoever
does not love
their brother and sister,
whom they have seen,
cannot love God,
whom
they have not
seen.
21
And he has given us
this command:
Anyone
who loves God
must also love their brother
and sister.
