your deeds,

neither
cold
nor
hot.
I wish

I am about to

‘I am rich;

Comfort for God’s People
40:1
Comfort,
comfort my people,
says your God.

Speak tenderly
to Jerusalem,
and
proclaim to her
that
her hard service
has been completed,
that
her sin has been
paid for,
that
she has received
from the Lord’s hand
double
for all her sins.
3
A voice of one calling:
“In the wilderness prepare
the way for the Lord
make straight
in the desert
a highway
for our God.
4
Every valley
shall be raised up,
every
mountain and
hill made low;
the rough ground
shall become level,
the rugged places
a plain.
5
And
the glory of the Lord
will be revealed,
and
all people
will see it together.
For
the mouth of
the Lord has spoken.”

A voice

“Cry out.”

“What shall I cry?”
“All people are like grass,
and all their

instruct
the Lord as his counselor?

Whom
did the Lord consult
to enlighten him,
and who taught him
the right way?
Who was it
that taught him knowledge,
or showed him
the path of understanding?

Surely
the nations are like
a drop in a bucket;
they are regarded as
dust on the scales;
he weighs the islands
as though they were
fine dust.

Lebanon is not
sufficient for altar fires,
nor its animals
enough for burnt offerings.
17
Before him
all the nations are
as nothing;
they are
regarded by him
as worthless
and less than
nothing.
18
With whom, then,
will you compare God?
To what image
will you liken him?
19
As for an idol,
a metalworker casts it,
and a goldsmith
overlays it with gold
and fashions
silver chains for it.
20
A person
too poor to present such
an offering
selects wood
that will not rot;
they look for
a skilled worker
to set up an idol
that will not topple.

Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
Has it not been told you
from the beginning?
Have you not understood
since the earth was founded?

He
sits enthroned
above the circle of
the earth,
and
its people are like
grasshoppers.
He stretches out
the heavens like a canopy,
and
spreads them out
like a tent to live in.

He brings
princes to naught
and
reduces
the rulers of this world
to nothing.

No sooner
are they planted,
no sooner
are they sown,
no sooner
do they take root
in the ground,
than
he blows on them
and they wither,
and
a whirlwind
sweeps them away
like chaff.

“To whom
will you compare me?
Or who is my equal?”
says the Holy One.

Lift up
your eyes
and look to
the heavens:
Who created
all these?
He who brings out
the starry host one by one
and calls forth
each of them by name.
Because of
his great power
and mighty strength,
not one of them
is missing.

Why do you
complain, Jacob?
Why do you say,
Israel,
“My way is
hidden from the Lord;
my cause is
disregarded
by my God”?

Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The Lord is
the everlasting God,
the Creator
of the ends of the earth.
He will not
grow tired or weary,
and his understanding
no one can fathom.

He gives
strength
to the weary
and increases
the power of the weak.

Even youths

and young men
stumble and fall;

hope in the Lord
will renew

Peter Heals a Lame Beggar

One day
Peter and John
were going up to the temple
at the time of prayer—
at three in the afternoon.
2
Now
a man who was lame
from birth
was being carried
to the temple gate called
Beautiful,
where
he was put
every day to beg
from
those going into
the temple courts.
3
When
he saw
Peter and John
about to enter,
he
asked them
for money.
4
Peter
looked straight
at him,
as did John.
Then
Peter said,
“Look at us!”
5
So
the man
gave them his
attention,
expecting
to get something
from them.
6
Then
Peter said,
“Silver or gold
I do not have,
but what I do have
I give you.
In the name of
Jesus Christ of Nazareth,
walk.”
7
Taking him
by the right hand,
he helped him up,
and instantly
the man’s feet
and ankles
became strong.
8
He
jumped
to his feet
and
began to walk.
Then
he went with them
into the temple courts,
walking
and jumping,
and praising God.
9
When
all the people
saw him walking and
praising God,
10
they
recognized him
as the same man
who used to sit begging
at the temple gate called
Beautiful,
and
they were filled
with
wonder
and amazement
at what had happened to him.
Peter Speaks to the Onlookers
11
While the man
held on to Peter and John,
all
the people
were astonished
and
came running
to them
in
the place called
Solomon’s Colonnade.
12
When
Peter saw this,
he said to them:
“Fellow Israelites,
why does this surprise you?
Why do you stare at us
as if by our own power or godliness
we had made this man walk?
13
The God of Abraham,
Isaac and Jacob,
the God of our fathers,
has glorified his servant
Jesus.
You
handed him over
to be killed,
and
you disowned him
before Pilate,
though
he had decided
to let him go.
14
You disowned
the Holy
and Righteous
One
and asked
that
a murderer
be released to you.
15
You killed
the author of life,
but
God raised him
from the dead.
We are witnesses of this.
16
By faith
in the name of Jesus,
this man whom you see
and know was made strong.
It is Jesus’ name
and the faith
that
comes through him
that has
completely
healed him,
as you can all see.
17
“Now, fellow Israelites,
I know that you acted
in ignorance,
as did your leaders.
18
But
this is
how God fulfilled
what
he had foretold
through all the prophets,
saying that
his Messiah would suffer.
19
Repent,
then,
and turn to
God,
so that
your sins
may be wiped out,
that times of refreshing
may come from
the Lord,
20
and that he may
send the Messiah,
who has been
appointed for you—even Jesus.
21
Heaven
must receive him
until the time comes
for
God to restore
everything,
as he promised
long ago through his
holy prophets.
22
For Moses said,
‘The Lord
your God will raise up
for you a prophet like me
from
among your
own people;
you must
listen to everything
he tells you.
23
Anyone
who does not listen to him
will be completely cut off
from their people.’
24
“Indeed,
beginning with Samuel,
all the prophets
who have spoken have foretold
these days.
25
And
you are heirs of
the prophets
and
of the covenant
God made with your fathers.
He said to Abraham,
‘Through
your offspring
all peoples on earth
will be blessed.’
26
When
God raised up
his servant,
he sent him first to you
to bless you
by turning each of you
from your wicked ways.”

요한과 더불어 주목하여
