Beware of Hypocrisy

12:1

 In
the meantime,

when
an innumerable
multitude of people
had gathered
together,

so that
they trampled
one another,

He
began to say
to His disciples
first of all,

“Beware
of the leaven
of the Pharisees,

which
is hypocrisy. 

2

For there is
nothing
covered

that
will not be
revealed,

nor
hidden

that
will not be
known. 

3

Therefore

whatever
you have spoken
in the dark

will be
heard
in the light,

and
what you have
spoken in
the ear

in
inner
rooms

will be
proclaimed

on
the housetops.

Jesus Teaches the Fear of God

4

 “And I say to you,
My friends,

do not
be afraid of
those who kill
the body,

and
after that

have

no more

that
they can
do. 

5

But
I will show
you

whom
you should
fear:

Fear
Him

who,
after He has
killed,

has power
to cast into
hell;

yes,

I say to you,

fear Him!

6

 “Are not
five sparrows
sold for two
copper coins?

And

not one
of them is
forgotten

before
God. 

7

 But

the very hairs
of your head are
all numbered.

Do not fear
therefore;

you are
of more value
than many
sparrows.

Confess Christ Before Men

 “Also I say to you,

whoever
confesses Me

before men,

him
the Son of
Man

also
will confess

before
the angels of
God. 

9

But

he who
denies Me
before men

will be
denied

before
the angels of
God.

10

 “And
anyone

who
speaks
a word against

the Son of Man,

it will be
forgiven
him;

but

to him
who blasphemes

against
the Holy Spirit,

it
will not be
forgiven.

11

 “Now

when
they bring you
to the synagogues

and
magistrates
and authorities,

do not
worry about

how
or

what
you should
answer,

or
what you
should say.

12

 For
the Holy Spirit
will teach
you

in
that
very hour

what
you ought to
say.”

The Parable of the Rich Fool

Then

one
from the crowd
said to
Him,

“Teacher,
tell my brother
to divide the inheritance
with me.”

14

But

He
said to him,

“Man,
who made Me
a judge

or
an arbitrator
over you?” 

15

 And He said
to them,

“Take
heed

and

beware
of
covetousness,

for
one’s life
does not

consist
in the abundance
of the things

he
possesses.”

16

Then

He
spoke
a parable
to them,

saying:

“The ground
of a certain rich man
yielded plentifully. 

17

And

he thought
within himself,
saying,

‘What
shall I do,

since
I have no room
to store my
crops?’ 

18

So
he said,

‘I will do this:

I will pull down
my barns

and build
greater,

and
there

I will store
all my crops

and my
goods. 

19

And I will say
to my soul,

“Soul,
you have
many goods laid up
for many years;

take
your ease;

eat, drink,

and
be merry.” ’ 

20

But

God said
to him,

‘Fool!

This night
your soul will be
required of
you;

then

whose will
those things
be

which
you have
provided?’

21

 “So is he
who lays up
treasure for
himself,

and
is not rich
toward

God.”

Do Not Worry

22

Then He said
to His disciples,

“Therefore
I say to you,

do not worry
about your
life,

what
you will
eat;

nor
about the
body,

what
you will put
on. 

23

Life is
more than
food,

and
the body
is

more

than
clothing.

24

Consider
the ravens,

for they neither
sow nor reap,

which
have neither

storehouse
nor barn;

and

God
feeds them.

Of
how much
more
value

are you

than
the birds? 

25

And
which of you
by worrying

can
add
one cubit

to
his stature? 

26

If
you then

are not
able to do
the least,

why are you
anxious

for
the rest? 

27

Consider
the lilies,

how
they grow:

they
neither toil
nor spin;

and yet
I say to you,

even

Solomon
in all his glory

was not
arrayed like
one of these. 

28

If then

God
so clothes
the grass,

which
today is
in the field

and tomorrow
is thrown into
the oven,

how much more
will He clothe
you,

O you of
little faith?

29

 “And

do not seek
what you should
eat

or
what
you should
drink,

nor
have
an anxious
mind. 

30

For
all these things

the nations
of the world
seek after,

and

your
Father
knows that

you
need
these things. 

31

But

seek
the kingdom
of

God,

and
all these
things

shall be

added

to you.

32

 “Do not fear,
little flock,

for
it is

your
Father’s
good pleasure

to give
you

the kingdom. 

33

Sell
what you have
and give alms;

provide
yourselves
money bags

which do not
grow old,

a treasure
in the heavens

that
does not
fail,

where
no thief
approaches

nor
moth
destroys. 

34

For where
your treasure
is,

there
your heart
will be

also.

The Faithful Servant and the Evil Servant

35

 “Let
your waist be
girded

and
your lamps
burning; 

36

and
you yourselves
be like men

who
wait for
their master,

when
he will return
from the wedding,

that
when he comes
and knocks

they may
open to him
immediately. 

37

Blessed
are

those
servants

whom
the master,
when he comes,

will find
watching.

Assuredly,

I say to you
that he will gird
himself

and
have them
sit down to eat,

and
will come

and
serve them. 

38

And

if
he should
come in the secon
watch,

or
come in
the third watch,

and
find them
so,

blessed
are

those
servants. 

39

But
know this,

that
if the master
of the house had
known

what hour
the thief would
come,

he would have
watched

and
not allowed
his house to be
broken
into. 

40

Therefore

you
also be ready,

for the Son of Man
is coming

at an hour
you do not
expect.”

41

Then Peter
said to Him,

“Lord,
do You speak
this parable only
to us,

or
to all
people?”

42

And

the Lord
said,

“Who then
is that

faithful

and

wise

steward,

whom
his master

will make
*ruler

over
his household,

to give them
their portion of
food

in due
season?

43

Blessed

is

that servant

whom
his master
will find

so doing
when he comes. 

44

Truly,
I say to you

that

he
will make
him

ruler

over all that
he has. 

45

But

if
that servant
says in his
heart,

‘My master is
delaying his
coming,’

and begins
to beat

the male
and female
servants,

and

to eat
and drink

and

be
drunk,

46

the master
of that servant
will come on a day

when
he is not
looking for him,

and

at
an hour

when
he is not
aware,

and

will
cut him
in two

and

appoint him
his portion

with
the unbelievers.

47

And
that servant

who
knew

his
master’s
will,

and
did not
prepare himself

or
do according
to his will,

shall be
beaten

with
many stripes. 

48

But

he who
did not know,

yet
committed
things deserving
of stripes,

shall be
beaten with
few.

For
everyone
to whom much
is given,

from him

much will be
required;

and to whom
much has been
committed,

of him
they will ask
the more.

Christ Brings Division

49

 “I came
to send fire
on the earth,

and how
I wish it were
already kindled! 

50

 But

I have
a baptism
to be baptized
with,

and how
distressed
I am

till
it is
accomplished! 

51

Do
you suppose
that

I came
to give peace
on earth?

I tell you,

not at all,

but

rather

division. 

52

For
from now on

five
in one house
will be divided:

three against
two,

and
two against
three. 

53

Father
will be divided
against son

and son
against father,

mother
against daughter

and daughter
against mother,

mother-in-law
against her daughter-in-law

and daughter-in-law
against her mother-in-law.”

Discern the Time

54

Then He also said
to the multitudes,

“Whenever
you see a cloud
rising out of the west,

immediately
you say,

‘A shower is
coming’;

and
so it is. 

55

And

when you see
the south wind
blow,

you say,

‘There will be
hot weather’;

and
there is. 

56

Hypocrites!

You can
discern the face
of the sky

and
of the earth,

but how is it
you do not
discern

this time?

Make Peace with Your Adversary

57

 “Yes,
and why,
even of yourselves,

do you not
judge

what is right? 

58

When you go
with your adversary
to the magistrate,

make
every effort
along the way

to settle
with him,

lest
he drag you
to the judge,

the judge
deliver you
to the officer,

and the officer
throw you
into prison. 

59

I tell you,
you shall not
depart from
there

till
you have paid
the very last
mite

어두운 데서
말한 모든

광명한 데서
들리고

골방에서 귀에

지붕 위에서
전파되리라

말하노니

몸을 죽이고

그 후에는
능히 더 못하는
자들을

두려워하지
말라

곧 죽인 후에
또한 지옥에

권세 있는

사하심을
받으려니와

성령을

회당이나
위정자나

권세 있는 자 앞에
끌고 가거든

어떻게 무엇으로
대답하며

무엇으로 말할까
염려하지 말라

마땅히 할 말을
성령이 곧 그 때에

너희에게
가르치시리라

한 부자 비유

무리 중에
한 사람이
이르되

선생님
내 형을 명하여

유산을
나와 나누게 하소서
하니

이르시되

이 사람아
누가 나를

너희의
재판장이나

물건 나누는 자로
세웠느냐

하시고

그들에게

삼가 모든 탐심을
물리치라

생명이

자기를 위하여
재물을 쌓아
두고

부요하지 못한

목숨과 몸을 위하여 염려하지 말라

또 제자들에게
이르시되

그러므로

무엇을 먹을까

몸을

음식보다
중하고

몸이

saying,

 “Stand
in the gate
of the Lord’s
house,

and

proclaim

this word,

and say,

the Lord,

at these gates

to
worship
the Lord!’ ”

“Amend

doings,

dwell
in this place.

Me

poured out

on
this place—

on man
and on beast,

sacrifices

I did not
speak

incline

the counsels

to you

all My servants

the prophets,

daily
rising up
early

and

sending
them.

Yet

they

did not

obey

Me

or

incline

their ear,

but
stiffened
their neck.

They
did worse
than their fathers.

 “Therefore

you
shall speak
all these words
to them,

but

they
will not
obey you.

shall also call
to them,

but

they
will not
answer you.

Judgment on Obscene Religion

 “So
you shall say
to them,

‘This

is
a nation

that

does not

obey

the voice
of the Lord

their God
nor receive
correction.

perished

has been

cut off

their mouth.

Warnings From Israel’s History

9:1

Oh,
that my head
were a spring of
water

and
my eyes
a fountain of
tears!

I
would
weep

day
and night

for
the slain of
my people.

2

Oh,
that I had
in the desert

a lodging place
for travelers,

so that
I might leave
my people

and
go away
from them;

for
they are all
adulterers,

a crowd of
unfaithful
people.

3

“They
make ready
their tongue

like a bow,
to shoot
lies;

it
is not
by truth

that
they triumph
in the land.

They
go from one sin
to another;

they
do not
acknowledge
me,”

declares
the Lord.

4

“Beware
of your friends;

do not
trust anyone
in your
clan.

For
every one
of them
is

a deceiver,

and
every friend

a slanderer.

5

Friend

deceives

friend,

and

no one
speaks
the truth.

They
have taught
their tongues
to lie;

they
weary
themselves

with

sinning.

6

You

live

in
the midst

of
deception;

in
their deceit

they
refuse

to
acknowledge
me,”

declares
the Lord.

Therefore

this is
what the Lord
Almighty
says:

“See,

I
will
refine

and

test them,

for
what else
can I do

because

of
the sin

of
my people?

Their
tongue is
a deadly arrow;

it
speaks
deceitfully.

With
their mouths

they all
speak cordially
to their neighbors,

but
in their hearts

they
set traps
for them.

Should

I

not

punish

them

for this?”

declares
the Lord.

“Should I not
avenge
myself

on
such a nation
as this?”

10

I will weep
and wail

for
the mountains

and

take up
a lament

concerning
the wilderness
grasslands.

They are
desolate
and untraveled,

and
the lowing of
cattle is not heard.

The birds
have all fled

and
the animals
are gone.

“I will make
Jerusalem a heap
of ruins,

a haunt of
jackals;

and

I will lay
waste the towns
of Judah

so no one
can live there.”

Who
is wise enough
to understand
this?

Who
has been
instructed

by
the Lord

and
can explain it?

Why
has the land been
ruined

and
laid waste
like a desert

that
no one can
cross?

13

The Lord said,

“It is
because

they have
forsaken my
law,

which
I set before
them;

they
have not
obeyed me

or followed
my law.

14

Instead,

they have
followed

the
stubbornness

of
their
hearts;

they
have followed
the Baals,

as their ancestors
taught them.” 

15

Therefore

this is
what the Lord
Almighty,

the
God of
Israel, says:

“See,

I will make
this people eat
bitter food

and

drink
poisoned
water. 

16

I will scatter
them

among
nations

that
neither they

nor
their ancestors
have known,

and

I will
pursue them
with the sword

until
I have made
an end of them.”

17

This is
what the Lord
Almighty
says:

“Consider now!

Call for
the wailing women
to come;

send
for the most skillful
of them.

18

Let them
come quickly
and wail over us

till
our eyes
overflow with
tears

and water
streams from
our eyelids.

19

The sound of
wailing is heard
from Zion:

‘How ruined
we are!

How great is
our shame!

We
must leave
our land

because
our houses are
in ruins.’”

20

Now,
you women,

hear
the word of
the Lord;

open
your ears

to
the words
of his mouth.

Teach
your daughters
how to wail;

teach
one another
a lament.

21

Death has
climbed in through
our windows

and
has entered
our fortresses;

it has
removed
the children from
the streets

and
the young men
from the public
squares.

22

Say,

“This is
what the Lord
declares:

“‘Dead bodies
will lie  like dung
on the open field,

like
cut grain
behind the reaper,

with
no one
to gather them.’”

23

This is
what the Lord
says:

“Let not

the
wise boast

of
their
wisdom

or

the
strong boast

of
their
strength

 or

the rich
boast

of
their
riches,

24

but

let
the one
who boasts

boast
about this:

  that they have
the understanding
to know
me,

that I am
the Lord,

who
exercises

kindness,

  justice

and

righteousness

on
earth,

 for
in these
I delight,”

declares the Lord.

25

 “The days
are coming,”

declares
the Lord,

“when
I will punish
all

who
are  circumcised only
in the flesh— 

26

Egypt, Judah,
Edom, Ammon, Moab
and all

who
live in
the wilderness

in
distant
places.

For
all these nations
are really uncircumcised,

and
even the whole house
of* Israel is uncircumcised
in heart.”

거짓을 말하며

강성하나

빨리 와서

우리를 위하여
애곡하여

우리의 눈에서

이는

시온에서
통곡하는 소리가
들리기를

아주 망하였구나

크게 부끄러움을

추수하는 자의

그의 지혜를

자랑하지 말라
