A Righteousness That is By Faith

What if God,
although choosing
to show his
wrath

and
make his power known,
bore with great
patience

the
objects of
his wrath—prepared for
destruction?

23

What if
he did this to make
the riches of
his glory

known
to the objects of
his mercy,

whom
he prepared in
advance for glory

24

even us,
whom he also called,
not only from

the Jews

but also

from the

Gentiles?

25

As he says in Hosea:

“I will call them

‘my people’

who are not

my people;

and
I will call
her

‘my loved one’

who is not

my loved one,”

and,
“In the very
place

where
it was said to
them,

 ‘You are not
my people,’

there
they will be
called

‘children of the living God.’”

Isaiah cries out
concerning
Israel:

“Though
the number of
the Israelites

be like
the sand by
the sea,

  only
the remnant
will be
saved.

28

For the Lord
will carry out

   his sentence on
earth with speed
and finality.”

29

It is
just as Isaiah
said previously:

“Unless
the Lord Almighty
had left us descendants,

we
would
have become
like Sodom,

we
would
have been like
Gomorrah.”

Israel’s Unbelief

30

What then
shall we say?

That

the Gentiles,

who did not
pursue  righteousness,
have obtained
it,

a righteousness

that is

by faith;

31

but
the people of
Israel,

who pursued
the law as the way of
righteousness,

have not
attained their
goal.

32

Why not?

Because
they pursued
it

not by faith

but as if
it were by works.

They
stumbled over
the stumbling stone.

33

As it is written:

“See, I lay in Zion
a stone that causes
people to

stumble

and a rock
that makes them
fall,

and

the one

who
believes
in him

will never be

put to shame.”

Romans 9:22-33

만일 하나님이
그의 진노를
보이시고

그의 능력을
알게 하고자 하사

멸하기로
준비된 진노의
그릇을 오래 참으심으로
관용하시고

영광 받기로
예비하신 바

속히 시행하시리라

미리 말한 바

만일
만군의 주께서
우리에게 씨를 남겨 두지
아니하셨더라면

소돔과 같이
되고

고모라와

함과 같으니라

우리가 무슨 말을
하리요

의를 따르지 아니한

이방인들이

의를 얻었으니

곧 믿음에서 난 의요

의의 법을 따라간

이스라엘은

율법에

이르지 못하였으니

믿음을 의지하지

행위를

의지함이라

부딪칠 돌에
부딪쳤느니라

보라
내가 걸림돌과
거치는 바위를 시온에

The Rear Guard

“Is not
this the kind of
fasting I have
chosen:

to loose
the chains of
injustice

and
untie the cords
of the yoke,

to set
the oppressed
free and break
every
yoke?

Is it not
to share your
food with the
hungry

and
to provide
the poor wanderer
with shelter —

when you
see the naked,
to clothe
him,

and
not to
turn away from
your own flesh
and blood?

Then
your light
will break forth
like the
dawn,

and
your healing
will quickly
appear;

your righteousness
will go before
