The word

that
came
to Jeremiah

from
the Lord,
saying,

 “Stand
in the gate
of the Lord’s
house,

and

proclaim
there

this word,

and say,

‘Hear
the word of
the Lord,

all you
of *Judah

who
enter in
at these gates

to
worship
the Lord!’ ”

Thus
says the Lord of
hosts,

the God
of *Israel:

“Amend

your
ways

and
your
doings,

and

I
will
cause you

to
dwell
in this place.

Do not trust
in these lying
words,

saying,

‘The temple
of the Lord,

the temple
of the Lord,

the temple of
the Lord

are
these.’

 “For if you
thoroughly

amend

your ways

and
your doings,

if
you
thoroughly

execute

judgment

between
a man and
his neighbor,

6

if you
do not oppress
the stranger,

the fatherless,

blood

this place,

My place

do not pray
for this people,

for them,

intercession
to Me;

I will not

not see
what they do

in
the cities of
Judah

and
in the streets
of Jerusalem?

The children
gather wood,

the fathers
kindle the fire,

and
the women
knead dough,

to make
cakes

for
the queen
of heaven;

and

they
pour out
drink offerings

to other
gods,

that

they
may provoke
Me

to anger.

Do they
provoke
Me

to anger?”

says the Lord.

“Do they not
provoke
themselves,

the shame of
their own
faces?”

“Behold,

anger

and
My fury

will be
poured out

on
this place—

on man
and on beast,

on the trees
of the field

on the fruit
of the ground.

it will burn

quenched.”

your burnt
offerings

sacrifices
and eat meat.

I did not
speak

Oh,
that my head
were a spring of
water

and
my eyes
a fountain of
tears!

I
would
weep

day
and night

for
the slain of
my people.

Oh,
that I had
in the desert

a lodging place
for travelers,

so that
I might leave
my people

and
go away
from them;

for
they are all
adulterers,

a crowd of
unfaithful
people.

“They
make ready
their tongue

like a bow,
to shoot
lies;

it
is not
by truth

that
they triumph
in the land.

They
go from one sin
to another;

they
do not
acknowledge
me,”

declares
the Lord.

“Beware
of your friends;

do not
trust anyone
in your
clan.

For
every one
of them
is

a deceiver,

and
every friend

a slanderer.

Friend

deceives

friend,

and

no one
speaks
the truth.

They
have taught
their tongues
to lie;

of ruins,

of Judah

can live there.”

Who
is wise enough
to understand
this?

Who
has been
instructed

by
the Lord

and
can explain it?

Why
has the land been
ruined

and
laid waste
like a desert

that
no one can
cross?

The Lord said,

“It is
because

they have
forsaken my
law,

which
I set before
them;

they
have not
obeyed me

or followed
my law.

14

Instead,

they have
followed

the
stubbornness

of
their
hearts;

they
have followed
the Baals,

as their ancestors
taught them.”

Therefore

this is
what the Lord
Almighty,

the
God of
Israel, says:

“See,

I will make
this people eat
bitter food

and

drink
poisoned
water.

I will scatter
them

among
nations

that
neither they

nor
their ancestors
have known,

and

I will
pursue them
with the sword

until

an end of them.”

“Consider now!

Call for
the wailing women
to come;

send
for the most skillful
of them.

come quickly

from Zion:

‘How ruined
we are!

climbed in through
our windows

removed

“This is

on the open field,

no one
to gather them.’”

wise boast

their
wisdom

or

strong boast

strength

the rich
boast

riches,

경외하는 것이

지혜의 근본이요

거룩하신 자를
아는 것이

명철이니라

나 지혜로 말미암아
네 날이 많아질
것이요

네 생명의 해가
네게 더하리라

네가 만일
지혜로우면

그 지혜가
네게 유익할
것이나

네가 만일
거만하면

너 홀로
해를 당하리라

미련한 여인이
떠들며

어리석어서
아무것도 알지
못하고

자기 집 문에 앉으며
성읍 높은 곳에 있는
자리에 앉아서

자기 길을
바로 가는 행인들을
불러 이르되

어리석은 자는
이리로 돌이키라

또 지혜 없는 자에게
이르기를

도둑질한

물이 달고

몰래 먹는 떡이

맛이 있다

하는도다

오직

그 어리석은 자는

죽은 자들이

거기 있는 것과

그의 객들이

스올 깊은 곳에 있는 것을

알지 못하느니라
