사노라면
무수히 크고 작은
파도를 만납니다.

이럴 때.
“그럴 수 있지”
이 한마디.

한 글자만
바꿔 생각하면
격정의 파도는
잠잠해 지고

마음은 이내
안정과 평안을
찾을 것입니다.

“그럴 수 있나” 와
“그럴 수 있지” 의
차이는 하늘과 땅 차이
만큼이나 표현 하기에
따라 180도 다른
인격으로 바뀌게 됩니다.

“그럴 수 있지”는
세상을 따뜻하게 합니다.

Do what is just and right

The damaged house
near the brook looks like a clay pot
that only has rafters
without a thatched roof
wiped by the north wind

The kitchen is so cold
covered with snow and old ashes
and star lights shine through the wall

The posessions they have are so pathetic
Worth only seven or eight pennies

There are only three strips of grain
like a dog tail and a handful of dried red pepper

The broken big jar is
Wrapped with cloth
And the falling shelves
are fastened with rope.

적성촌 중에서

다산/정약용

시냇가 부서진
집 뚝배기 같고
북풍에 이엉 걷혀
서까래만 앙상하네

묵은 재에 눈이 덮혀
부엌은 차디차고
체 눈처럼 뚫린 벽에
별빛이 비쳐드네

집안에 있는 물건
쓸쓸하기 짝이 없어
모조리 팔아도
칠팔 푼이 안되겠네

개꼬리 같은
조 이삭 세 줄기와
닭 창자같이 비틀어진
고추 한 꿰미

깨진 항아리 새는 곳은
헝겊으로 때웠으며
무너앉은 선반대는
새끼줄로 얽었도다.

1794년 33세 때 경기암행어사로
연천 지방을 돌아보며 쓴 시이다.
인용한 부분은 시의 전반부로
적성촌의 한 농가의 모습이 마치
그림을 보듯이 사실적으로 묘사되어 있다.

이 시가 우리에게 감동을 주는 것은
18세기 말 조선의 전형적인 농촌의 실상을
사실적으로 적나라하게 묘사하고 있기 때문이다.

Jeong Yak-yong (5 August 1762 – 7 April 1836),

often simply known as ‘Dasan’ (茶山, one of his ‘ho’ / pen-names meaning ‘the mountain of tea’), was born on the 16th day of the 6th lunar month, 1762, in Gwangju county, Gyeonggi province, and died there on the 22nd day of the 2nd lunar month, 1836.

He was one of the greatest thinkers of the later Joseon period, wrote highly influential books about philosophy, science and theories of government, held significant administrative positions, was a close confident of King Jeongjo (ruled 1776-1800), and was noted as a poet.

His philosophical position is often identified with the Silhak (practical learning) school, and his concerns are better seen as explorations of Neo-Confucian themes.

He spent 18 years in exile in Gangjin, South Jeolla province, from 1801 until 1818, on account of his membership of the Southerners (Nam-in) faction, and also because of the Catholic faith of his elder brother.

His clan originated in Naju, South Jeolla Province.

Catholics sometimes claim that he was baptized with the name John Baptist, but there is no documentary proof of this.
