The “Nth Room” Case

The “Nth Room” case(Korean: n번방 사건; Hanja: n番房 事件) is a criminal case involving blackmail, cybersex trafficking, and the spread of sexually exploitative videos via the Telegram app between 2018 and 2020 in South Korea. A man nicknamed god god (Korean: 갓갓) sold sexual exploitation videos on Telegram channels and groups.

A copycat crime, known as the “Doctor’s Room”, (Korean: 박사방; Hanja: 博士房; RR: baksabang) was operated by a man using the screen name Doctor (Korean: 박사; Hanja: 博士; RR: Baksa, later revealed to be Cho Joo-bin, who is accused of blackmailing dozens of women, forcing them to take sexually exploitative videos, with some involving rape.

The number of confirmed victims is at least 103, including 26 minors.

2019년 2월부터 수십여 명의 여성을 궁지에 몰아넣어 성착취 영상물을 찍게 하고, 이를 텔레그램을 통해 거래한 디지털 성범죄 사건.

박사방의 경우 2,000건 이상의 거래내역을 경찰이 확보한 상태이며, 공식적으로 알려진 박사방 피해 여성 74명 중 16명이 미성년자라는 사실이 알려지며 논란이 더 커졌다. # 2019년 9월 추적단 불꽃의 최초 보도를 시작으로 2019년 11월 한겨레의 단독 보도 내용이 트위터에서 공유되며 화제가 되기 시작했고, 12월에 텔레그램 성착취 신고 프로젝트 리셋(ReSET)이 시작되면서 증거 수집이 가속되었다. 이후 1월에 n번방 관련 국민청원이 10만 명의 청원으로 마무리되었고, 사건 수사가 급속하게 진전되어 2020년 3월 16일~17일, 텔레그램 본사 운영진[2]들의 협조와 경찰의 수사로 ‘박사방’ 운영자 ‘조주빈’이 검거되고 여러 언론에 대대적으로 보도되면서 대중들에게도 알려지게 되었다.

François de La Rochefoucauld

François VI, Duc de La Rochefoucauld, Prince de Marcillac (French: [fʁɑ̃swa d(ə) la ʁɔʃfuko]; 15 September 1613 – 17 March 1680) was a noted French author of maxims and memoirs. He is part of the literary movement of classicism and best known for his maxims. Although he only officially published his Memoirs and his Maxims, his literary production is dense.

Born in Paris in 1613, at a time when the royal court was vacillating between aiding the nobility and threatening it, he was considered an exemplar of the accomplished seventeenth century nobleman. Until 1650, he bore the title of Prince de Marcillac. His great-grandfather François III, count de La Rochefoucauld, was killed in the St. Bartholomew’s Day massacre, being a Huguenot.

본문  파리 출생. 명문 귀족의 아들로 전통에 따라 군복무를 마친 후 궁정에 돌아갔다. 순정다감한 성질의 소유자로 자주 정치적 음모에 휘말려들어, 루이 13세의 왕비가 계획한 반(反)리슐리외의 음모에 가담하여 투옥되는가 하면, 프롱드의 난(亂)에서는 반란군의 지휘를 맡고 싸우다가 1649년 파리성(城) 밖의 전투에서 목에 중상을 입는 등, 파란 많은 반생을 보냈다. 1659년 가까스로 오랜 세월에 걸친 근신에서 풀리고 8,000루블의 연금을 받게 되자, 정치적 야심을 버리고 파리의 이름 있는 살롱에 출입하며 사색과 저술로 후반생을 보냈다.

그 당시 살롱에서 유행하던 문학양식에 따라 저술, 발표된 작품이 《잠언(箴言)과 성찰 Réflexions ou sentences et maximes morales》(1665)이다. 이 초판은 1678년의 제5판에 이르기까지 여러 차례 정정 ·추가 또는 삭제가 가해져 504개의 잠언이 실려지게 되었는데, 간결 ·명확한 문체로 인간 심리의 미묘한 심층을 날카롭게 파헤치고 있다.

믿을 수 없는 인심의 허실을 남김없이 체험한 저자의 눈은 시종일관 신랄하고 염세적이며, 모든 위선을 날카롭게 벗기고 있다. “우리의 미덕이란 가장 자주 위장되는 악덕에 지나지 않는다.”라는 그의 머리말처럼 인간의 행위란 한 꺼풀만 벗기면 모두가 이기심이나 자애심에서 나온다는 것이 이 페시미스트의 근본사상이다.
