전깃줄에
닿는다고

인부들이
느티나무를
베던 날

아파트가
있기 전부터
동네를 지키던
나무는


전기톱이
돌아가자

순식간에
쓰러졌다


옛날 사람들은
가지 하나를 꺾어도
미안하다고

나무 밑동에
돌멩이를 던져
주었고


뒤란
밤나무를
베던 날


아버지는
연신 헛기침하며
흙으로 그 몸을
덮어주는 걸
보았는데

느티나무의
숨이 끊어지자

인부들은 
그 커다란
몸을 생선처럼
토막내어
싣고 갔다

이파리들의
그늘에 와 쉬어가던

무성한 여름과
동네 새들이
깃들이던

하늘의 집을
그렇게 어디론가
싣고 가버렸다

Trump’s pardon of Michael Flynn is a parting disgrace

DAY AFTER day, year after year, Americans wondered when Donald Trump would change. But winning primaries, claiming the GOP nomination, taking the White House and being president did not snap him out of a lifelong habit of indecency. It was too much to imagine that losing his reelection bid would bring a change of character. And so it is that President Trump is leaving the White House just as he entered it: a total disgrace.

In what we can only hope will be his last official degradation of his office, the president pardoned Michael Flynn, his former national security adviser, on Wednesday, the afternoon before Thanksgiving. Mr. Flynn freely pleaded guilty to lying to FBI investigators, a felony, about whether he discussed anti-Kremlin sanctions with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak. “I recognize that the actions I acknowledged in court today were wrong, and, through my faith in God, I am working to set things right,” Mr. Flynn said then. “I accept full responsibility for my actions.” But then he took it all back.

Mr. Flynn switched lawyers, hiring Sidney Powell — yes, the same Sidney Powell who last week alleged a vast international communist plot to flip the 2020 presidential election to President-elect Joe Biden — and insisted that he was the victim of FBI manipulation. Of course, no one forced him to lie to counterintelligence investigators. But Mr. Trump, who had privately pushed then-FBI Director James B. Comey to go easy on his former confidant, waged a public campaign against prosecuting Mr. Flynn, tying it into his efforts to discredit the Russia investigation. Finally, Attorney General William P. Barr bailed out Mr. Flynn, moving to drop the case against the former Trump staffer, despite his previous guilty plea.

Mr. Flynn’s judge balked, igniting a debate about whether he could stop the Justice Department from showing such obvious favoritism for one of the president’s friends based on legal reasoning the department rejected in other cases. A former federal judge hired to advise the court found Mr. Barr’s justifications“an unconvincing effort to disguise as legitimate a decision to dismiss that is based solely on the fact that Flynn is a political ally of President Trump.” No matter: Now the case is closed. Mr. Trump steamrolled the facts and debate, deploying one of the least reviewable powers of his office — his pardon authority — to officially end the Flynn drama. He enabled an admitted felon to walk free solely because he was a loyal Trumpist.

As he so often does, Mr. Trump grounded his decision in a half-baked conspiracy theory, insistingWednesday through his press secretary that Mr. Flynn was “the victim of partisan government officials engaged in a coordinated attempt to subvert the election of 2016.” In fact, Mr. Flynn was caught scheming with the representative of a foreign government that actively tried to subvert the 2016 election. Then he lied about it to the FBI.

So it remains in Mr. Trump’s America, at least for a couple more months: Guilty is innocent; lies are truth; traitors are patriots. The question is not whether Mr. Trump has degraded the presidency. The question is how much long-term damage he has done. Will future presidents now feel free to use the pardon power — or the other vast powers of office — with such nakedly crooked motives? How many will calculate that they can make corruption appear to be patriotism as long as enough of the country wants to believe
 the lies they tell?

이
개같이
망할 놈의 풀은
개망초

앞잡이
요꼬하마의  욕구는
팽팽한 여름의
피스타치오

남편
몰래

간격이 다정한
애인을 탐하는
간음姦婬의
정체

나의 권리는
중요해

너의
권리는
왜 중요할까

남편과
자녀들과
시부모에게
큰 폐를 끼치며
살아가는
여자

오르는 것들은
싻부터 잘라
추락을 모의
하자

하마의 구멍론
질시의 발광
그 오래된
시작

모자 벗은
암실의 거짓이
천하에 들켜
버렸네

개망초:

나라를 망하게 하는
풀이란 뜻으로
이런 이름이
붙여졌는데,

망초가
갑자기 퍼지기
시작하면서 을사조약이
맺어졌다고
합니다.

도입 경위는,
일제강점기에
철도공사를 할 때
철도 침목에 묻어 나온
것으로 추정되며,

망초가
나쁜 뜻으로 쓰였다면
개망초는 나쁨을 부정하는
의미로 볼 수도
있습니다.

꽃 모양 덕택에
‘계란 꽃’이라고도
부르기도 합니다.

개망초에 얽힌 전설…;
개망초에 얽힌 전설은,

옛날 중국의
초나라 시대,

어느 산골 마을에
가난하지만 금슬이 좋은
부부가 살고
있었습니다.

이 부부는
아주 부지런하여
산을 일구어 농사를
지으며 살았는데,

아침부터 저녁까지
밭에 나가 부지런히
김을 맨 덕분에

항상
풀 한 포기 없이
곡식을 잘 가꾸어

가을이 되면
다른 집보다 더 많은
곡식을 거두어들이게
되었다고
합니다.

그러던 어느 해,
이웃에 있는 남당이
초나라에 쳐들어오게 되어
남편은 전쟁터로 나가게
되었고

전쟁이
길어지면서
남편의 소식도
감감하게 되었습니다.

하지만,
부지런한 아내는
남편을 그리워하면서도
혼자서 열심히 일을 했는데,

전쟁에 패하여
나라가 망할 것 같다는
소식이 들리자

그만 덜컥
병이 나고
말았습니다.

병이 난 부인은
그래도 자리에
누워있을 수만 없어
밭에 나가서 부지런히
풀을 뽑았는데,

남편에 대한 그리움,
전쟁과 잡초에 대한
원망으로

병은
깊어만
갔습니다.

그러던 어느날,
몹시 지친 부인은
유난히도 많이 돋은
풀을 뽑아 밭둑으로
던지며,

“이 망할 놈의 풀!”
하고서는

그만
그 자리에 쓰러져
죽고 말았습니다.

드디어,
전쟁이 끝나고
남편은 무사히
아내가 있는 곳으로
돌아오게 되었는데,

아내는 없고
밭에 풀만 무성하니
자라고 있었습니다.

슬픔과
원망이 가득한
남편은 마음을 가다듬고
일을 하기로
했지만,

아내가
김을 매던 밭에서
풀을 뽑아서 던지며
신세타령을
하듯

“이 개같이 망할 놈의 풀!”
하고 외쳤다고
합니다.

그때부터 이 풀은
‘개같이 망할 놈의 풀’
이라고 해서

 ‘개망초’로
불리게 되었다는
전설이 있습니다.

개망초 꽃말:

“가까이 있는 사람을
행복하게 해주고,
멀리 있는 사람은
가까이 다가오게
해준다”

꽃말이
상당히 길고
아름답습니다.

꽃을
아름드리
따다가

꽃이름과 함께
가까운 이웃과
지인에게

선물하고 싶다는
생각이 듭니다.

내가
시를 쓰는
일은

계속될른지

낮아지지 않으면
써지지 않는 내 삶의
부스러기들,

때로는
그 건방진
행위

한때는
과분하였고
또 과분한 대접을
받으며

삶의
모퉁이에서

내 문자는
슬픈 표정이거나

깨달음의
발광發光을
하였을 터,

오늘 나는

경전처럼
난해한 시를
읽다가

쓸쓸해진다

폐 끼치지 말고
살아가자는

몸으로
쓰는
시,

삶의
전방에 배치된

아내가
시인이다

원림에 드니
그늘까지
붉다

명옥헌*을 따라
운행하는
배롱나무는

별자리보다도
뜨거워

눈이
타들어가는
붉은 계절을
완성한다

은하수
쏟아져 내리는
연못 속
꽃그늘

그 그늘
안에서는

무엇이든
옥구슬 소리로
흘러가고

어디선가
시작된 바람은
낮은 파문으로
돌아와

우주의
눈물로 화들짝
여울져
가는데,

기어이 후두둑
흐드러지는
자미성**

연못 속으로
어느 인연이
자맥질 해
들어왔나

문이란 문 죄다
열어젖히고

한여름 염천에
백리까지 향기를
몰아간다

그 지극함으로
꽃은 피고
지는 것

제 그림자를
그윽히 들여다
보며

아무도
본 적 없는
첫 개화의
우주에서

명옥헌
별자리들의
황홀한 궤도가
한창이다

한 생을 달려와
뜨겁게 피어나는
배롱나무

드디어
아무 망설임 없이
안과 밖을
당기니

활짝 열고
맞아들이는

견고한
합일의 연못
